Marking
Marking of high-speed steels, which are produced in accordance with GOST 1926573, includes the first letter P (from the word rapid — «fast»). The number after the letter «P» indicates the average content of tungsten (in percent of the total mass, the letter B is skipped). Then, after the letters M, F and K indicate the percentage of molybdenum, vanadium and cobalt.

Notes: 1. The content of Mn, Si and Ni is not more than 0.4%; S and P not more than 0.03% (for steels P9F5, P14F4 and P10K5F5 it is allowed 0,035% Р). 2. The content of molybdenum up to 1% in steel P18 and up to 0.6% in steel P9 (grade P18M and P9M) is allowed. With an increase in Mo content in steels P18M and P9M greater than 0.3%, W content can be reduced in them (1% Mo replaces 2% W). | ||||||

Classification
By its chemical composition, high-speed steel is divided into tungsten (P9, P12, P18, P18F2), high-vanadium (P9F5, P14F4), cobalt (P9K5, P9K10), cobalt-vanadium (P10K5F5, P18K5F2). A number of steels, which in their properties and applications are referred to as high-speed steels, is produced on the orders of consumers, and GOST 19265−73 does not include:
