Technical specifications
Alloy 1.4903 is a martensitic grade stainless steel, which is characterized by higher values of resistance to long-term strength — creep. The material is magnetic, and refers to high-alloy steels. The performance of products manufactured from 1.4903 alloy is guaranteed in a wide temperature range: from -10 to 760 0 C. This stainless steel is well suited for all technological modes of heat treatment, which allows to significantly change its main operational properties.
Urgency of application
The products, which are produced from the alloy 1.4903, are used in the manufacture of pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, and other chemical equipment using high-temperature technological processes. The stainless steel in question is suitable for the manufacture of connecting (including welded) fittings, valves, steam turbine nozzles, protective covers, pipelines, and other products operating at high temperatures and pressures.
Chemical composition
In accordance with the technical requirements of DIN EN 10088, DIN EN 10028 and DIN EN 10302, steel 1.4903 includes the following elements (numerical data — in percentages):
C | Si | Mn | Ni | P | S | Cr | Mo | V | N | Nb | Al |
0.08 — 0.12 | Not more than 0.5 | 0.3 — 0.6 | Not more than 0.4 | Not more than 0.025 | Not more than 0.015 | 8 — 9.5 | 0.85 — 1.05 | 0.18 — 0.25 | 0.03 — 0.07 | 0.06 — 0.1 | Not more than 0.03 |
As agreed with the customer, 0.3% of copper and up to 0.1% of titanium are allowed in the steel composition. The DIN EN 10216−2014 standard further limits the percentage of silicon (0.2… 0.5%), phosphorus (up to 0.02%), sulfur (up to 0.005%) and aluminum (up to 0.02%).

Areas of application, technological features and assortment
The 1.4903 grade alloy is available in various rolling profiles, as well as in forgings. With increasing cross-sectional dimensions, the mechanical strength of the initial blanks is reduced. Weldability of the alloy — satisfactory, it is recommended the use of electric welding methods MIG or TIG with the use of tungsten non-consumable electrodes.
