Technical specifications

Birmabright ® is a trade name that is used to refer to various types of lightweight sheet metal made from aluminum and magnesium alloys. The alloy is highly corrosion resistant. Birmabright ® alloys contain from 1% to 7% of magnesium and — sometimes — up to 1% of manganese (the rest is aluminum). Depending on the method of production, they are produced by hard, semi-solid or soft. Alloys can not be heat treated, so their mechanical properties can only change due to strain hardening. The deformability of the material deteriorates with increasing percentage of magnesium in it. Alloys have good corrosion resistance in sea water.

Urgency of application

Rolled alloys Birmabright ® is used in the manufacture of small ships, as well as some aircraft equipment. Sheet products from these alloys are also used in the automotive industry, mainly in the production of off-road vehicles.

Chemical composition

According to the existing classification and standards — American 5251 and ISO AlMg2 — the following Birmabright ® alloys are commercially available:

Alloy name Mg Mn Al
BB 17 0.6% - rest
BB 1 1.0% 0.5% rest
BB 1-X 1.0% - rest
BB 2 2.0% 0.25% rest
BB 5454 2.8% 0.7% rest
BB 3 3.5% 0.25% rest
BB 4 4.7% 0.7% rest
BB 5 5.0% 0.3% rest
BB 7 7.0% - rest

Assortment and application features

Rod, wire, sheet, tape and tube, made of Birmabright® alloys, are produced in a wide range of grades, profiles and length. Alloys are characterized by poor weldability (preferably spot or roller electric welding is recommended). Alloys containing more than 1% magnesium, it is recommended to deform in the hot state (temperature forging — 700… 800 0 C).

Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers to purchase bar, wire, sheet, tape and pipe made of Birmabright® alloys in a wide range of grades and sizes of cross sections. Products can be bought at a price formed on the basis of European and world standards of production. Implementation is possible in bulk and retail, for regular customers, a flexible system of discounts operates.
