Basic information

Stainless steel grade 316L is an improved version of AISI 316, with additional content consisting of molybdenum and a higher Nickel content. This gives the opportunity to increase the resistance of steel to corrosion. AISI 316 L has excellent qualities for forming and excellent welding characteristics. This composition gives the opportunity to significantly increase steel corrosion resistance in most aggressive hired. The presence of molybdenum in AISI 316 L protects from pitting corrosion crevice in seawater environment chloride and acetic acid vapors in the polluted atmosphere.

AISI 316 L compared to the AISI 304 has the best creep resistance, has greater strength at high temperature.
