Sheet nickel NP-2 - nickel 200

Sheet nickel NP-2 - nickel 200

Due to its exceptional properties, nickel is now used very widely. It has resistance to high temperatures, the action of corrosive media, significant electrical resistance. It is used in machine building, instrument making, and electrical engineering. It is indispensable for alloying stainless heat-resistant alloys.

Sheet NP-2 is made from semi-finished nickel (with a small amount of impurities), obtained by electroslag remelting. Marking «N» means nickel itself, and «P» means semi-finished product. The numbers indicate the content of silicon, copper, iron, sulfur, manganese, and carbon in the alloy. The most popular brands are H-1, NP-1, NP-3.

Sheet NP-2 is a very hard, viscous, malleable material. It is easily polished, in air at ordinary temperature it is covered with a protective oxide film, which protects it from corrosion. It is able to withstand the effects of hot gaseous and liquid corrosive media, it is perfectly suited for any kind of rolling, turning, drawing, stamping, welding. The only drawback is the admixture of sulfur. It is capable of forming a sulphide film on the surface of nickel products. This makes them more brittle at high temperatures. The main method of purification from a sulphide film is electrorefining.

Sheet NP-2 is placed in the electrolyte, and in the form of a cathode, another nickel sheet is used, on which nickel is precipitated in its pure form. This purification process is self-paying, because at the same time anodic sludge is released, which is easy to decompose into individual constituents, and their price will not be less than the cost of cleaning itself.

Manufacturing of anodes, cathodes. They are produced in accordance with GOST 2132−90. LP-2 sheets are in demand by machine building, instrument making. They are also used for cladding and nickel plating — applying to the surface of another metal the finest nickel layer 50 — 125 microns thick — to protect against corrosion, exposure to atmospheric moisture, alkali solutions, salts and acids. In metallurgy, such a sheet can be used as a charge, i.e., subject to further remelting for the production of nickel-containing alloys
