Zinc anode

Technical specifications
Zinc anodes are made from industrial grade zinc (the metal content is not less than 97.5%). They are brittle round profiles of blue-steel color. Extraction of zinc for subsequent rolling or drawing is achieved by heating the zinc oxide with carbon and then distilling the semi-finished product. In air, zinc anodes react with acids and alkalis.
Urgency of application
Zinc anodes are used for the following applications: for the protection of ships (ships, barges and tankers) against corrosion, for the implementation of cathodic protection of ships, vehicles or containers, for cleaning docks and harbors, for use in heat exchangers and condensing equipment, for the protection of underground objects (tanks, containers).

The composition of zinc anodes is regulated by the requirements of GOST 3640−94 (numerical data — in percent):

In zinc of grade TSV00, the mass proportions of bismuth, nickel and antimony should not exceed 0.00001% of each.
In zinc of grades Ц2 and ЦЗ the mass share of antimony should be no more than 0,02%.
The admissible levels of impurity content can be changed by agreement between the manufacturer and the consumer without changing the content of the main substance and stipulated by the conditions for the supply of products.
The mass fraction of zinc is determined by the difference of 100% and the sum of the content of impurities of lead, iron, cadmium, copper and tin in percentage.

Assortment and application features
For domestic products, GOST 1180−91 is regulated. Zinc anodes are produced in thickness from 5 to 20 mm, width from 65 to 600 mm, height from 400 to 1200 mm. A special configuration of zinc anodes is also possible — rod, circle, disks.
