Marking of bearing steel of domestic production

Stamps and the composition of bearing steels are regulated by the terms of GOST 801−78, according to which production of the following steel grades is envisaged: ШХ15, ШХ4, ШХ15СГ and ШХ20СГ. In the designation of brands, the letters and numbers mean:
Ш at the beginning of the brand — bearing;
X — alloyed with chromium;
4, 15, 20 — mass fraction of chromium (0.4%, 1.5%, 2.0%);
SG — doped with silicon and manganese;
Ш at the end of the brand — obtained by electroslag remelting;
At the end of the brand — manufactured with vacuum.
Steel grades ШХ6 and ШХ9 from the latest edition of the standard are excluded.

Bearings of foreign production

Supplied in accordance with ASTM A295. This specification covers all grades of high-carbon steels used for the production of bearings. Materials must comply with the chemical compositions specified herein, as well as the physical dimensions and form agreed between the manufacturer and the buyer.

The steels must exhibit a fine grain size of the fracture upon quenching from normal austenitic temperatures. Decarburization and surface defects should not exceed the limits specified here. When annealing is specified in the order, the steel must meet the requirements of hardness and have a fully spheroidized microstructure, which is accordingly evaluated in the form of carbide dimensions, carbide network and lamillar composition.

The marking of such steels is steel 52100, steel 52100 Grade2, steel 440C.
