GOST standards for cemented structural steel
Are you interested in GOST for cemented steel of domestic production from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic.
General information
Cementation is an effective method of increasing the surface properties of shafts, gears, bearings and other parts with a high load. Products made of low-carbon steel are manufactured by forging and mechanical processing into finished forms, and then converted by cementation into a composite material consisting of high-strength surface areas and a viscous core. When this microstructure is quenched to martensite and then tempered, the high hardness and strength of the microstructure, combined with the favorable residual compressive stress resulting from the interaction between the surface and deep layers, causes very high resistance to wear, and increases resistance to fatigue failure.
Structural transformations during carburization
Carbon martensite is gradually replaced by martensite with a lower carbon content with increasing distance from the cemented surface. The slightly hardened martensite is the dominant microstructural component of the cement itself.
Other microstructural components may also be present and may significantly affect the characteristics of the cemented parts. These other microstructural components include retained austenite; carbides of various origin, sizes, and morphology; inclusion; treated with surface oxides; preliminary boundaries of austenitic grain, which are contaminated with phosphorus segregation; and products without martensitic transformation of austenite, such as bainite and perlite.

Properties of cemented structural steels
Since most carburized products are subsequently cycled, the most important property or measure of their performance is fatigue resistance. Hardness is another property commonly measured in carbide steels and is used as a quality control parameter to document success in carburization and to establish the depth of the hull. However, although many cemented steels have the same hardness profiles, they can have different microstructures and perform completely differently. The mechanical properties measured during the tensile test are of little value due to the gradients in the microstructures and the properties between the surface and the center of the carbonized steels. Thus, the strength and toughness of fracture, which are useful in assessing critical defects or crack sizes, are also included in the basic properties of cemented structural steels.
GOST on steel of domestic production does not establish their special name on the method of surface hardening.
