Welding of reverse polarity with a tungsten electrode
Are you interested in welding processes on the reverse polarity using tungsten electrodes from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic /
Features of welding on the reverse polarity
The choice of the polarity of the welding current depends on the type of material and the design of the connection. The welding procedure always indicates the type of polarity. When welding with a tungsten non-consumable electrode (TIG method), more heat is generated at the cathode than at the anode. With positive (reverse) polarity of the DC electrode, more heat is generated on the workpiece. This leads to an increase in the depth of the weld, and can reduce the frequency of joint defects.
Tungsten electrodes are less commonly used in welding processes with reverse polarity. Reverse polarity is mainly used for welds obtained by MIG methods. Under reverse polarity, electrons move from the cathode spots on the workpiece to the positive anode at the tip of the MIG welding wire. Electrons thus generate most of the arc energy at the tip of the welding electrode, with most of the arc energy now centering in the weld metal and, thanks to its good conductivity, heats the material quickly.
Reverse polarity ensures stable arc burning, which is useful when joining thin sheet parts from stainless steels, special and some non-ferrous alloys.
