Classification and characteristics of tungsten electrodes

Classification and characteristics of tungsten electrodes

Are you interested in the classification and characteristics of tungsten electrodes from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic.

General Provisions

The parameters of tungsten electrodes are regulated by the following standards: for domestic products of GOST 23949−80 «Tungsten Welding Electrodes Welding Non-Melting, Technical Specifications," for electrodes of imported production, in terms of quality, performance and cleanliness with the standards of ANSI / AWS ISO 6848. The characteristics of each type of tungsten electrodes .

Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at affordable prices from the manufacturer tungsten non-consumable electrodes of various diameters and chemical composition. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.

Torated electrodes (marking color — red), international classification AWS EWTh-2

The thoriated tungsten electrodes contain not less than 97.30% tungsten and 1.70−2.20% thorium. They are the most commonly used electrodes because of their durability and ease of use. Thorium increases the emission properties of the electrode, which improves the arc start and allows increasing the current capacity.

This electrode works much lower than its melting point, which results in a much lower consumption rate and eliminates arc wandering for greater stability. It also has a lower contamination level of the weld than other electrodes. Areas of application: carbon and stainless steel, nickel alloys and titanium.

Zirconia electrodes (marking color — white), international classification EWZr-1

Zirconium tungsten electrodes) contain a minimum of 99.10% tungsten and 0.80% zirconium. A zirconium tungsten electrode creates an extremely stable arc and the formation of droplets of melt when used. It is ideally suited for AC welding, since it retains the tip and is highly resistant to contamination. The current carrying capacity of a zirconium electrode is equal to or greater than toritized tungsten. Under no circumstances is it recommended to use zirconium compounds for DC welding.

Electrodes of chemically pure tungsten (marking color — green), international classification EWP

Pure tungsten electrodes contain 99.50% tungsten, have the highest level of consumption of all electrodes and are usually less expensive than doped analogues. Pure tungsten also provides good arc stability for sinusoidal AC welding, especially on aluminum and magnesium, but is not normally used for DC welding. The field strength in comparison with thoriated or cir- cated electrodes is weaker.

Lanthanide electrodes (color of the marking: if there is 1% lanthanum — black, with lanthanum 1.5% — golden), international classification EWLa-1.5 or EWLa-1

Lanthanum tungsten electrodes contain a minimum of 97.80% tungsten and 1.30−1.70% lanthanum. These electrodes provide the easiest arc ignition, low burnup rate, good arc stability and excellent ignition characteristics. Such electrodes work well with negative polarity of alternating or direct current and can replace both ceried and torated electrodes, since they are suitable for AC welding and, like cerium electrodes, allow lower values of arc voltage. 1.5% lanthanum increases the maximum load capacity by about 50% for an electrode of the specified size.

Ceramic electrodes (marking color — gray)

They are considered a good alternative to torated electrodes, contain from 0.5 to 2% cerium, are suitable for welding at low currents. Such electrodes work best when welding with direct current, but can sometimes be used in welding processes using DC. Ceramic tungsten electrodes are used for welding pipes, thin sheet metal, or in processes where small and thin-sheet metals, mainly carbon and stainless steels, nickel alloys and titanium are welded.

The electrodes have a length of 7 inches (175 mm), each package contains 10 electrodes.

Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers to purchase tungsten non-consumable electrodes of various diameters and chemical composition. Products can be bought at a price formed on the basis of European and world standards of production. Implementation is possible in bulk and retail, for regular customers, a flexible system of discounts operates.
