When welding with tungsten non-consumable electrodes, different power supplies are used with different types of arc starters. In each application for welding, different gases and tip tip configurations are used. In addition, the types of materials to be welded change.   • P stands for pure tungsten electrode without alloying additives;

The numbers indicate the nominal alloying composition (in percent by weight).

For example, EWTh-2 is a thoriated tungsten electrode containing nominally 2 weight percent thorium.
