Annealing, hardening and heat treatment of carbon tool steel.
Are you interested in annealing, hardening and other types of heat treatment of carbon tool steels from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic.
General information
Tool steels are high-quality steels, manufactured with controlled chemical composition and heat treated to obtain the required performance properties. The carbon content in them is from 0.1 to 1.6%. Tool steel also contains alloying elements: chrome, molybdenum, vanadium, etc. Tool steels provide high strength, corrosion resistance and temperature stability in comparison with structural steels.
The heat treatment modes depend on the purpose of the carbon tool steels.
High impact strength steels
The carbon content is 0.5 /// 0.6%. Alloying elements are Cr, W, Mo. These steels are characterized by good toughness, hardness and improved hardenability. These steels are usually quenched in water or in oil. Low-temperature quenching is carried out where the rigidity and hardness of tool steel are of paramount importance, otherwise — hardening is carried out at elevated temperatures. This group includes silicon-manganese steels. Because of their high Si content, such steels are prone to decarburization and grain growth.
Technology features
Annealing: slow and uniform heating in the range 790−800 ° C, followed by cooling the furnace at a rate of 8−15 ° C / h. Annealing to relieve internal stresses: heating to 650−675 ° C and cooling the furnace. Hardening: Preheating — heating up to 650 ° C and holding for 20 minutes / 25 mm. Austenization — heating up to 900−950 ° C and re-holding for 20 minutes / 25 mm.
Hardening: heating to 205−650 ° C, holding for 30 minutes / 25 mm, and then, air cooling.
Applications: chisels, punches, knives, hand tools.
Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at a reasonable price from the manufacturer a diverse range of tool steels that meet the technical requirements of the standards. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.
Tool steels for processes of cold deformation
Such steels are used for making tools for cold working applications, when the tool surface temperature does not exceed 200 ° C. They are characterized by high wear resistance and wear resistance, sufficient impact strength and impact resistance. These steels slightly change size during heat treatment. They are divided into 2 groups: hardening during heat treatment and hardening in air. Hardening of such steels is carried out in oil.
The steels are characterized by high workability, wear resistance and dimensional stability. The quenching temperature for these steels ranges from 100 to 425 ° C. Applications: tools for knurling and threading, measuring instruments.
Steels with a particularly high percentage of carbon are used to make hand hammers, a large metalwork tool, boring cutters, chisels, cutters, and the like.
