Incoloy welding of nickel alloys
Are you interested in welding nickel alloys with an insolite from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic.
Welding electrodes of Incoloy alloy — properties
Nickel alloy Incoloy is widely used for the production of welding wire, which is used in the processes of gas and electric welding of nickel alloys, pure nickel. And also with the combined connection of nickel alloys with stainless and ordinary steels. The wire from the alloy in question is more often used in automated welding technologies, because it should be smoothly fed through welding equipment: in this case, the wear of the welding tip is reduced.

Features of welding Incolyu
Most welding methods are determined by the two main properties of nickel alloys — their low thermal conductivity, and the slow formation of a bath with a liquid metal. Low thermal conductivity means that heat does not dissipate easily. Another way to say that heat is very easy to grow. Therefore, when welding with Incoloy, it is necessary to use cooling pads, which are located on the opposite side of the welding electrode.
The slow formation of the melt is eliminated by using argon under increased pressure, which covers the weld zone and protects the welded materials from high-temperature oxidation by air oxygen, which is especially necessary when welding nickel alloys with ordinary steels. This keeps the temperature of the welding electrode in the right range, and allows the use of comparatively small welding currents when welding with Incoloy. As a result, the deformations of the welded parts in the zone of the finished weld are also reduced.
Recommended modes of welding of nickel alloys using a welding wire from Incoloy:
Using a tungsten non-consumable electrode: current 150… 250 A (with increasing electrode diameter, the current is increased), the arc voltage is 26… 33 V, shielding gas is argon with 25% helium added;
When welding under a layer of flux — current 270… 550 A, voltage — 28… 33 V, the composition of the flux must comply with the recommendations for welding a nickel alloy of a particular brand. Both agglomerated and fluxed fluxes can be used. The chemical composition of the flux mainly affects the chemistry of the weld metal and, consequently, its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
