The history of the discovery of nickel alloys. Physical and mechanical properties
Are you interested in the history of discovery, physical and mechanical properties of nickel alloys from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic /
History of discovery
Pure nickel was first obtained in 1751, but its first alloys were obtained much earlier. Chinese documents about 1500 BC. refer to «white copper» (baitong), which, most likely, was an alloy of nickel and silver. And in the 15th century German miners who believed that they could mine copper from nickel ores in Saxony mentioned kupfernikel — «devil's copper» — which, according to modern views, was nothing more than a chemical compound of copper and nickel.
On an industrial scale, nickel alloys began to be produced at the beginning of the last century. The largest nickel producers in 2010 were Russia, Canada, Australia and Indonesia.
Urgency of application
Nickel alloys form the basis of all stainless steels, and, in addition, are used in the production of batteries, permanent magnets, medical equipment and aerospace equipment.
Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at a reasonable price from the manufacturer a diverse range of nickel-based alloys. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.
Stainless steel — basic nickel alloy
About 65% of all nickel produced is used in the manufacture of stainless steel. Austenitic steels are non-magnetic stainless steels that contain high levels of chromium and nickel and low carbon levels. This group of steels is valued for its high ductility and corrosion resistance. Austenitic steels are the most widely used class of stainless steel. The nickel-containing austenite range of stainless steels is determined by their crystal structure with a face-centered cubic lattice, in which there is one atom in each corner of the cube and one atom in the middle of each face. This grain structure is formed when a sufficient amount of nickel (8 to 10 percent for a predominant number of stainless steels) is added to the alloy.
Classification and properties
The main types of nickel alloys that have received practical application:
Iron-nickel-chrome alloys
Stainless steels
Copper-nickel alloys
Nickel-chrome alloys
Magnetic alloys.
Properties of some nickel alloys are presented below:
