General information
This general specification contains the mandatory requirements for ASTM standards listed in this document for seamless pipes and pipes from nickel and nickel alloys. In the event of a conflict, the requirements listed in this standard take precedence over those listed below.
Application area
This specification contains various requirements that, except for sections 5 and 10, are mandatory requirements for the following ASTM standard: nickel and nickel alloy, seamless pipe specifications:
B161 — general requirements for seamless pipes made of nickel;
B163 — seamless tubes of heat exchangers and plants, made of nickel-chromium-iron alloys according to UNS N06600, N06601 and N06690;
B165 — seamless pipes of nickel-copper alloy according to UNS N04400;
B167 — seamless pipes of nickel-iron-chromium alloys;
B407 — seamless pipes of nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloys in accordance with UNS N08825 and N08221;
B423 — pipes made of nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloys according to UNS N06625;
B444 — seamless pipes made of nickel-chromium-iron-niobium-molybdenum-tungsten alloys according to UNS N06102;
B445 — seamless pipes made of nickel-iron-chromium-silicon alloys according to UNS N08330 and UNS N08332;
B535 — seamless pipes made of copper and its alloys with beryllium;
B570 — Seamless pipes from nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys;
B622 — seamless pipes of nickel alloys according to UNS N08028;
B668 — Seamless pipes from nickel alloys on UNS N08904, UNS N08925 and UNS N08926;
B677 — seamless pipes made of iron-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys according to UNS N08366 and UNS N08367;
B690 — seamless tubes made of Ni-Cr-Mo-Co-W-Fe-Si multicomponent nickel alloys according to UNS N06333;
B722 — seamless pipes made of nickel alloys according to UNS N08020, UNS N08026 and UNS N08024;
B729 — seamless pipes made from other grades of nickel alloys.
One or more requirements for seamless pipe testing for strength are applied only if they are specified in the product specification or in the purchase order. In the event of a conflict between the product specification requirement and the requirement of this general specification, only the product specification requirement is required.
