Thermal cutting of metal

Thermal cutting of metal

Are you interested in the technology of thermal cutting of rolled metal, steels and alloys from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic

The essence of processes

Thermal cutting includes technologies of contact and noncontact methods of forming a thermal source sufficient to separate metals and alloys. To contact carry the methods of mechanical cutting on friction friction saws, and to non-contact — all high-energy methods of cutting metal blanks.

Three methods of thermal cutting — laser cutting, plasma arc cutting and flame (flame) cutting are the basis of many processes of industrial production of blanks.

The choice of the method of thermal cutting depends on the type of material, the thickness of the material, the required cutting quality and dimensional tolerances.

Oxidative cutting

In oxygen-fuel cutting, the exothermic reactions between pure oxygen and steel provide heat for the melting of the metal.

First, the surface of the preform is heated. Then, pure oxygen is sent to the heated zone by a thin high-pressure stream to produce the cut. In this process, only metals whose oxides have a lower melting point than the base metal itself can be cut. Therefore, it is limited mainly to carbon steels.

Plasma cutting

Plasma cutting uses a high-velocity jet of ionized gas (plasma), which is delivered from the compressing aperture. The plasma heats the workpiece, melts the material and mechanically removes the molten metal during its destruction. Plasma cutting can be performed on any type of conductive metal.

To squeeze the plasma loop and achieve a narrower gap with less distortion, the plasma gas flow can be rotated or a second casing can be used.

Supplier — AvekGlob company — offers at affordable prices from the manufacturer various metals and alloys, blanks for which can be obtained using thermal cutting. The assortment and the number of such blanks are completely determined by the customer’s wishes. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer

Laser cutting

In laser cutting, a beam of monochromatic and coherent light is created inside the laser cavity, which is then focused by the lens onto the metal surface.

Since laser light is an electromagnetic wave, it accelerates free electrons in the metal. Electrons will collide with other components of the metal lattice, causing the material to heat up and melt. Process gases, such as oxygen or nitrogen, are used to extract molten metal from the cut portion of the billet.

Gas or fire

The key to an optimized cutting process is fuel. The choice of the right process gas and the operation of a safe gas supply system that meets the requirements of flow, pressure and cleanliness, improves the quality and productivity of cutting.

Friction Cutting

Frictional cutting is made by a smooth, circular in the plan saw, which rotates at high speed on the working axis of the machine. When the saw is applied to the surface of the fixed workpiece (in some machine designs, the workpiece is rotated in the opposite direction), the metal of the preform is locally heated, followed by melting and forming a separation gap.
