Thermal welding or melting welding involves the use of a heat source to melt two separate pieces of metal for their connection. Depending on the heat source, the quality of the weld can vary from poor to good, with the support of microstructural integrity and sufficient mechanical strength of the joint. The high level of all these components is difficult to maintain.
A variation of thermal welding is friction welding. It provides a higher microstructural integrity, and is performed by a rotating cylindrical tool that heats and plasticizes the material through friction. For certain types of metals and combinations of compounds, such welding is impossible.
The combined process combines various aspects of two types of thermal welding, and therefore is considered more progressive and universal.
Basics of Friction Welding
Fusion welding involves direct heating of the joint of two plates or metal sheets. There are many different types of fusion welding, since the heat source can be different, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Welding with friction with mixing (fusion-process) creates heat through friction. A cylindrical tool with a probed tip is installed into the mandrel, where it rotates to create friction. Once the heat is sufficient, the metal is plasticized, and the rotating tip connects both parts. Then, the tool travel continues until the seam is complete. Friction stirring welding provides a clean welded seam and can work on metals whose composition is microstructurally complex, for example, for stainless steel. For friction stir welding, there are speed limits, which are associated with incompleteness of diffusion processes.
Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at a reasonable price from the manufacturer various welded structures, metals and alloys, in the quantity and assortment required by the customer. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.
The sequence of the thermal washing process
Thermal stir welding is a combination of both the heat dissipation properties of fusion welding and the stirring properties of friction stir welding. The agitating tool with the tip is pressed against the interface and rotates along the connection line, connecting both sides and creating a solid hinge.
Advantages of thermal welding
Since heating and connection are controlled separately, the process can be fully automated or carried out in semi-automatic mode. In this way, it is possible to combine dissimilar metals and alloys. The process is characterized by homogeneity of the structure and mechanical properties of the compound at any point of it.
Thermal welding is used in shipbuilding, the production of various automotive parts and structures, in the construction and repair of railways, as well as in other cases where an increased speed of connection of parts is required.
