Welding of metals by pressure
Are you interested in welding metal pressure from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic /
The essence of the method
Pressure welding is a form of solid phase welding, which is performed at ambient temperature. With this welding, the metal atoms are held together by a metal bond. Therefore, if two metal surfaces are tightly pressed together, an interaction occurs between free electrons and ionized atoms. This, in turn, leads to bonding and, therefore, to welding.
However, in practice, bonding is almost impossible in most conditions due to surface irregularities, organic surface contamination and chemical films, such as oxide films. Therefore, it is necessary to remove all obstacles between the parts to be joined, and then subject them to strong compression in the stamp. The advantages of this welding are that the ends of the parts to be joined do not need preparation, and the alignment of the two ends of the end occurs automatically when the material is placed in the matrix. There is no need to heat the parts, and the required gaps between them are automatically set.
Pressure welding conditions
Cold pressure welding is limited to colored materials or, at best, to soft steels that do not contain the minimum amount of carbon. Most non-ferrous metals can be cold-welded, with copper and aluminum being the most common. Various alloys, for example, constantan, brass, silver, nickel, gold, etc., are also subject to welding by pressure. Cold welding also involves coating wires, including tinned copper.
Pressure welding of dissimilar metals (for example, copper and aluminum) is the only way of their reliable connection without heating. The quality is excellent, because it corresponds to the original in detail, in addition, there is no heat affected zone with unsuitable properties.

The tool for welding by pressure
Stamps are produced according to the drawings, standardized and have the maximum possible gaps between the parts. An important role in the welding process is played by matrices — moving parts of dies. First, they must firmly hold the material and therefore the inside of the cavity is either etched with an electric pencil, or when the matrix is to be used to weld large pieces of aluminum, the capture tags are placed in the cavity before the die is heat-treated.
Important is the displacement of the halves of the stamp: it leads to the fact that the weld (burr or burr) is outward along the circumference of the material. This hollow remains in the form of a free ring around the material and must be subsequently cut off.
Stamps are manufactured for various profiles of blanks. If the profile makes it possible to manufacture a detachable matrix, then the area of its cross-section is within the technological capabilities of the equipment.
