Cutting and drilling of bronze
Are you interested in the technology of cutting and drilling of bronze from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find the necessary information on this topic.
Cutting
Cutting can be subject to both rolled and sintered bronze blanks. Cutting rolled profiles does not differ in principle from the sharp steel workpieces. For sintered bronze blanks, the following sequence of actions is recommended:
Use cutting tools that are made of tungsten carbide, as they retain a sharp cutting edge much longer;
Apply lower values of the rotational speed of the workpiece and the tool feed;
Use blanks with smaller surface roughness indicators
Preliminary check the bronze blank for porosity /
The choice of the feed speed of the cutting tool is determined by the steel grade from which it was made: for cutters or cutting blades made of high-speed steel, the feed rates should not exceed 50… 60 mm / min with a cutback speed of the workpiece up to 1000 rpm.
For the treatment of sintered bronze blanks, it is necessary to use lubricating-cooling liquids. Since oil is already present in the pores, it is not recommended to use oil-based emulsions.
Lapping of joints is not recommended because of the difficulty of subsequent removal of abrasive materials from pores. Repeated impregnation is recommended after treatment.

Drilling
It is produced with the help of drills, which have boron nitride in their composition. Such tools are characterized by good wear resistance, allow drilling operations with increased productivity, and do not overheat during deep drilling.
If it is necessary to produce holes in non-circular dimensions in bronze blanks, the technology of electric sparking is used. The process consists in using an accurate tubular electrode (usually copper) mounted in a drill chuck located on the «Z» axis and held in place on the top of the ceramic guide billet. The upper part of the workpiece is located and set to the required drilling depth. Rotation of the electrode occurs in deionized water, which is under a pressure of 50 to 100 kg / cm 2. The water flow is directed through the tubular electrode. The power source of the technological current is adjusted for the periods of on, off and peak current. At this stage, the discharge starts to start the drilling cycle. At the end of this cycle, the discharge stops and the «Z» axis is retracted from the workpiece.
