Turning of metal
Are you interested in the characteristics of turning metals, steels and alloys from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic /
The essence of technology
Turning — a kind of machining, in which the removal of metal occurs when the original workpiece rotates. This requires a lathe, workpiece, clamping tools and cutting tools. The workpiece is clamped in the device, which is part of the lathe, after which the rotation is communicated with high speed. The cutter, as a rule, represents a single-point (rarely — multipoint) cutting tool, which is also fixed on the machine. The cutting tool is fed to the rotating workpiece and cuts the material in the form of a fine chip to create the desired shape in the final product.
Urgency of application
Turning is used to create details such as bodies of revolution, usually axisymmetric, which have many features of their shape — holes, grooves, cones, various diameter changes and even contour surfaces, for example, threads or profiles.
Turning is usually used for small-scale and single-way production of these parts, as well as as a secondary process for adding or refining the characteristics of parts manufactured using technologies (in particular forging and other plastic deformation operations).
Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at affordable prices from the manufacturer various metals and alloys successfully subjected to various turning operations, in the quantity and assortment that are required by the customer. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer
Capabilities
Due to the high tolerances and surface coatings that can be formed during the rotation of the workpiece, turning is suitable for obtaining high-precision parts of the configuration on the workpiece, the preforming on which has already been made. Dimensions of cylindrical surfaces can reach 200 mm in diameter, and turning virtually any metals and alloys can be turned.
Surface quality after turning in Ra: 16 — 125 microns at tolerances of ± 0.0005 mm. Automated machining using CNC systems is possible.
Disadvantages of the process: only axisymmetric workpieces can be processed, considerable wear of the tool (special high-speed steels are required), a significant amount of metal waste in the chips. Turning is advisable to combine with other types of metalworking, and use it in the final stages of obtaining parts, when the important characteristics are accuracy and roughness.
The main characteristics of the turning process are the feed amount and the rotational speed of the workpiece.
Most lathes are machines of horizontal type. In a single production, lathes with a manual drive are sometimes used.
