Application area

This standard applies to hot-rolled bars and forgings (forged bars, cylinders, plates, parallelepipeds) made of an alloy of the M-MP grade, intended for further machining.
The letters in the name of the alloy mean: M — molybdenum; MP is a powder material.

Assortment

Hot rolled rods are produced with a diameter of 14.5 to 40 mm, forged rods from 30 to 60 mm, forgings — with a diameter or a rectangle side from 30 to 300 mm.
At the consumer’s request, rods with a diameter of 30 mm or more and forging are manufactured with a turned surface.
The dimensions of rods and forgings and the maximum deviations from them should correspond to those indicated in the table

Chemical composition

Molybdenum powder for the manufacture of bars and forgings should have the following chemical composition,%, not more: iron — 0,014; aluminum — 0.005; nickel — 0.005; silicon — 0.005; magnesium — 0.003; sodium — 0.015; potassium — 0.05; calcium — 0.007; tungsten — 0.4; oxygen and moisture — 0.3; molybdenum — the rest.
The particle size of the powder should not be more than 0.005 mm for 92% of the powder by weight.
It is allowed to use molybdenum blocks as a starting material, the chemical composition of which meets the requirements for molybdenum powder.

Requirements for the quality of the material

The bars and forgings are made in accordance with the order in an annealed condition or without annealing with a surface cleaned of oxides or mechanically treated.
On the surface of hot-rolled and forged bars and forgings, there should be no cracks, sunsets, cords and captivity.
It is allowed to remove defects by smooth sweeping or peeling. The depth of stripping or stripping should not lead the rods and forgings out of the minimum dimensions.
A mesh can be considered that is a superficial tear resulting from the oxidation of the grain boundaries during high-temperature deformation, provided that the depth of tears does not lead the bars and forgings beyond the minimum dimensions.
On the surface of turned rods and forgings, defects are not allowed, except for individual small defects with a depth not more than half of the maximum deviation by the size of the section, counting from the actual one.
Oxidation of the surface of rods and forgings during transport and storage by a sign is not.
On rods and forgings, mechanically unprocessed, it is possible to round the ends. The length of the measuring rods without counting the fillet should not exceed the nominal dimensions.
