Lathe
Are you interested in the technology of processing billets on lathes from the supplier company AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic
Sequence and essence of works
Since lathes belong to universal types of metal-cutting equipment, the main point of preliminary operations is the adjustment of the machine. The time required to produce a given number of parts includes the initial setting time and cycle time for each part. The adjustment time consists of the time required to set up the lathe, the planning of the tool movement (whether it is done manually or with the help of automation), and installing the tool holder.
The cycle time can be divided into the following periods:
Loading / unloading time is the time required to load the workpiece into the lathe and secure it to the fastener, as well as the time for unloading the finished part. The loading time may depend on the size, weight and complexity of the workpiece, as well as the type of device;
The time for performing the technological operation is the time required for the cutting tool to perform all necessary operations with the workpiece. The cutting time is calculated by dividing the total cut length by the feed rate, which is the speed of the tool moving relative to the workpiece;
Idle time is the time required for any tasks that occur during the technological cycle, and which do not concern the workpiece and, therefore, its processing. This is the time of setting up the tool, its approach and retraction from the workpiece, moving the tool between functions, setting up machine parameters and changing tools;
Time of tool replacement, spent on replacing a worn tool. This time is usually not performed in each cycle, but only with deterioration in the quality of turning.

Parameters of the turning process
When working on a lathe, the speed and movement of the cutting tool are determined by several parameters. These parameters are selected for each operation based on the workpiece material, tool material, tool size, and so on.
Feed — the distance that the cutting tool or workpiece reaches in one revolution of the spindle, is measured in mm per revolution. In some operations, the tool is embedded in the workpiece, while in others, the workpiece is fed to the tool. For a multipoint tool, the cutting feed is also equal to the feed per tooth measured in mm per tooth and multiplied by the number of teeth on the cutting tool.
Cutting speed — the surface speed of the workpiece relative to the edge of the cutting tool during operation, measured in mm per minute.
Spindle speed — the speed of rotation of the spindle and workpiece in revolutions per minute. The spindle speed is equal to the cutting speed divided by the circumference of the workpiece, which is processed. To maintain a constant cutting speed, the spindle speed must vary depending on the diameter of the workpiece.
Feed speed is the speed at which the cutting tool moves relative to the workpiece. The feeding speed is measured in mm per minute and depends on the feed rate and spindle speed.
