General provisions. Types and methods of marking
The characteristics and dimensions of the pipes are made in accordance with the provisions of GOST 10692−2015. This standard specifies requirements for the acceptance, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of steel and cast iron pipes and connecting parts to them.
Marking is applied to each steel pipe with a diameter of more than 159 mm with a wall thickness of 3.5 mm or more. Depending on the diameter and thickness of the pipe wall, the marking is applied by stamping, an electric pencil or rubber stamp (indelible paint), an electrograph or an indelible paint.
The marking of pipes shall be carried out at a distance of not more than 500 mm and not less than 20 mm from the end face and shall be outlined or emphasized with a bright paint.
The marking of pipes up to 159 mm in diameter, pipes having a light surface, as well as cold-deformed pipes in bags, is applied to a label. The marking of cold-deformed pipes up to 450 mm in diameter, bundled into packages, may be applied to a label and three pipes of each package.

Contents of the marking
The marking shall include the size of the pipe, the steel grade, the trademark or the name and trademark of the manufacturer. With machine marking, it is allowed to designate the steel grade as a four-digit numerical code in accordance with the All-Union Classifier of Products.
At the request of the consumer, the marking of pipes from alloyed steel grades, stainless steel, boiler rooms, etc. must contain additionally the melting number and pipe number.
Marking for seamless pipes with a diameter of 351 — 550 mm is applied by stamping and should additionally contain:
designation of the number of the standard or normative and technical documentation;
pipe number;
batch or smelting number;
wall thickness;
stamp of the technical control department.
The designation of the standard or standard technical documentation is allowed to be applied with paint, which should not be sticky and washable. Pipes with a diameter of 530 mm or more may be marked on the inner surface.
Pipes with a wall thickness of 10 mm or more may be marked by stamping at the end of the pipe. In this case, the end of the pipe, then the outer surface, at the end of which is marked, is surrounded by a bright paint in the form of an arc or semicircle.
When marking with stamps, the height of the marking marks should be 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 30 mm, and the width 3 — 12 mm. Marking by stamping is located along the perimeter or along the pipe. It is allowed to mark the paint along the pipe.
The labeling must be carried out in accordance with GOST 14192−77.
With the mechanized method of marking, the marking may be placed at a distance of not more than 1500 mm and not less than 100 mm from the end of the pipe.
