In the past month, the volume of imports of stainless steel in the US declined by 1/5

In September of this year, the amount of stainless steel imported into the US (in comparison with the data of the previous month), significantly decreased. During this period 82.4 thousand tons of corrosion-resistant metal were imported into the country, which is almost 20% less than in August.

According to foreign media reports, referring to the official statistics of the United States Department of Commerce (US Department of Commerce), the main decline in US imports last month touched flat stainless steel. In particular, the figures reflecting the volumes of foreign purchases on hot-rolled coiled stainless steel have changed most of all. The figures for the import of metal of this category in September (in comparison with the August figures) decreased by more than 10 thousand tons, which is the worst result for importers in the last 12 months.

From the point of view of the geography of foreign supplies, the import of stainless steel from the European, and in particular from Italian producers, has decreased most strongly. If in August US customs officials documented the arrival of 13267 tons of corrosion-resistant metal from this country, in September this indicator fell by about 73.5%, slipping to a mark of 3530 tons.
