Norilsk Nickel strengthens position on resource extraction in South Africa
Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, who acts as Chairman of the Board «Norilsk Nickel», July 4 has met in Sochi with President of the Republic of South Africa, D. Zuma. During the event, the sides discussed a number of issues relating to several joint projects in mining resources on the territory of the Republic of South Africa. In addition, representatives of the parties held talks regarding the signed Declaration on strategic cooperation between the state Department of resources, Republic of South Africa and Norilsk Nickel. According to preliminary agreements, Norilsk Nickel and South African industrial development Corporation will take an active part in the establishment of the National Fund of the Republic of South Africa geological exploration and production of minerals on the territory of the Republic. At the moment the specialists of Norilsk Nickel Africa (a subsidiary of the mining and metallurgical company «Norilsk Nickel») implements in South Africa big investment project, called the «Nkomati». The program is aimed at the extraction and processing of copper-Nickel ores and embodied the «Norilsk Nickel» together with «African Rainbow Minerals» (South Africa). In addition to the assets in the Republic of South Africa, Norilsk Nickel owns a number of foreign companies in Australia, Finland and the Republic of Botswana.
